Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In close connection with the lecture "Introduction to International Politics", the course offers an introduction to basic problems, terms, debates and theories of international politics. The substantive focus will be on regional developments in the Middle East, particularly in Syria, Iraq, and Turkey. The focus will be on the transnational conflicts of the region with their state and para-state actors. The Kurdish question will be a topic as well as the regional conflicts between the regional powers Turkey, Iran and Saudi Arabia, and the involvement of Russia, the USA and Israel.
The reading course is an exam-immanent course with a series of readings and minor written and oral exercises throughout the semester. This reading course will be held with as many face-to-face appointments as possible, and will be held online only when required by the Rector's Office in connection with the Covid 19 pandemic.

Assessment and permitted materials

The performance assessment consists of a series of smaller written and oral exercises during the semester, as well as the assessment of the students' participation.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

A total of 5 smaller written exercises during the semester will be weighted with 50% of the total grade, the participation in an oral group presentation will be assessed with 30%, the cooperation (esp. participation in discussions during the course) with 20%.

Examination topics

Since there will be an exam in lecture, there will be no written or oral exam in the reading course.
