Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course will focus on the situation of the Kurdish minorities in the Middle East, their national movements and the perceptions of national identity of the existing national states Turkey, Syria, Iraq and Iran. Based on critical theories of nationalism this will help to analyze nationalism and concepts of stateness in the Middle East.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Ziel der Lehrveranstaltung ist es sich kritisch mit dem Staats- und Nationsverständnis der kurdischen Nationalbewegung und jeweiligen Nationalstaaten mit kurdischen Minderheiten auseinanderzusetzen. Damit soll allerdings nicht nur Wissen über die Region, sondern auch ein theoretisches Verständnis von ethnisierten Konflikten und ökonomischen und politischen Verteilungskämpfen ermöglicht werden.
