Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
The language of instruction is English. Students are expected to have a solid command of the English language, in terms of reading, speaking and writing.Please sign up for this course via univis before the start of the semester; this is mandatory! It is not possible to sign up afterwards. Only students who are regularly registered via univis can participate in the course. It is mandatory to attend the first unit on 7 October 2015. Students who miss the first unit will lose their place in the course and can be replaced by students from the waiting list.If you decide not to take the course, please deregister by 31 October 2015. If you stop attending the course and do not deregister, you will receive a failing grade.Attendance for this course is mandatory and will be taken at every class meeting (unit). University regulations allow for up to two unexcused absences during the semester. A medical note is required for any further absence. Accruing more than two absences without a medical note will negatively affect the final mark. Absence due to job or work-related reasons will not be accepted. Students who miss more than five units (regardless of reason) will fail the course.Evaluation:
- Attendance and active participation in class discussions - 20%
- Written assignments - 20%
- Student presentation - 30%
- Final test taking place during the last unit of the course (closed book) - 30%
Students who do not complete any of the components listed above will be marked with 0 points for the respective component. It is not possible to retake the final test in case of failure. Students need to complete at least 55% to pass the course.Written assignments must be submitted by the deadline indicated in the course syllabus and on Moodle. A 50% penalty will be applied to assignments submitted after the deadline. Assignments submitted with more than 3 days delay will not be taken into consideration.Plagiarism (presenting someone else's work as your own) is strictly FORBIDDEN. Students may be asked to discuss their written assignments with the lecturer. In such cases the discussion will be documented and will be taken into consideration during grading.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The objective of the course is to deepen students' understanding of fundamental concepts in European integration and health policy. The course intends to develop students' analytical skills through critical engagement with arguments from the academic literature as well as their research and presentation skills.
Examination topics
Assigned readings, group and plenary debates, written assignments, student presentations.
