Aims, contents and method of the course

Focus topic: The Past, Current State and Future of Peace in the International System

Language of instruction: German and English !!!

Contents (2 blocks)
* Theories and dynamics of international politics (accompanying and deepening to the lecture International Politics
* Theories of peace, history of development, current state and global peace perspectives ( focus topic)

Methods:
* Workshop character
* Keynote talks and discussions with experts from academia and practice

Assessment and permitted materials

Language of instruction: German and English !!!

Performance requirements:
- Attendance and participation (20 points)
- a total of 3 text summaries on the basic texts of the lecture International Politics and on the basic texts of the main topic (20 points)
- 1 event protocol in the field of international politics or conflict and peace research (10 points)
- 1 focussed group impulse presentation and discussion moderation (20 points)
- 1 short term paper (essay): 2,000 - max. 2,500 words (30 points)

Additional work to improve your grade (optional!):
1 additional text summary / event protocol / focussed transcript ... (+ 10 points)

Note: Plagiarism software 'Turnitin' is used to check all written work.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

For a positive grade, at least half of the maximum possible points must be achieved in all areas (see 'Performance Requirements').
Excellent language skills in German and English are a prerequisite for participation and successful completion of the course.

Grading (points):
1 Very good: 91-100
2 Good: 75-90
3 Satisfactory: 61-74
4 Sufficient/Pass: 50-60
5 Insufficient/Fail: 0-49.

Examination topics

No written or oral exam will be required in the reading course.

- Reader Lecture International Politics
- Learning material and preparatory literature (in German and English) on the focus topic will be announced and made available on the Moodle course site in due time.
