Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course offers an introduction into the main instruments of state policy on dealing with dictatorial past(s) (trials, parliamentary commissions, lustration, rehabilitation and restitution laws) and the typical conflicts arising in this field. Participants will work either on seperate country studies or on comparative studies of certain aspects of state official dealing with the past after regime change; their studies shall also shed light on the relation between processes of coming-to-terms with the past and democratisation/consolidation of democracy after 1989.

Overview of the policy field of coming-to-terms with the past after regime change in the context of Post-89-transformation; knowledge of the main political and judicial instruments and the typical structures of conflicts related to them
Examination topics
Einführung durch den LV-Leiter; Diskussion von Grundlagentexten, eigenständige Erarbeitung von Länderbeispielen und -vergleichen durch die TeilnehmerInnen; simulierte Podiumsdiskussion(en)
