Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The seminar addresses the symbolic dimensions and (in particular visual) representations of politics.
Against the backdrop of the European integration process and dynamics that characterize the European political landscape, the meaning of political symbols and examples of symbolic politics are thus analysed and discussed in the run of the seminar.
Political action implies to generate representations of the social world, to make them obligatory and thereby to make an impact on social reality. The analysis of political symbols and symbolic political action therefore reflects aspects of the political culture and the political identity of a society.
In terms of methodology, the seminar aims at integrating approaches and concepts from the cultural and political sciences.
