Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course will focus on the analytical tools of Political Science to EU policy-making in the Mediterranean as a case study for Europeanization beyond the EU. They will be able to understand and question the main practices, dynamics and balances of power behind more than 20 years of EU external action towards the Middle Eastern and North African countries.

Active participation, attendance and weekly assignments (45%)
Final Essay (3000 words) 55%

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

This course has a seminar format. Students are required to actively participate in the class debate.
- Participation in the 1st class is compulsory
- Regular attendance is mandatory. 2 missing classes are allowed (except the 1st class).
- Deadlines for the assignments are compulsory. Late submission of the assignments will result in a negative grade. Non-submission of the assignment will result in the course failure.
- Assignments must be submitted only through Moodle.
- Grading before the end of the course is not possible.
- Appointments should be arranged by email.

Examination topics

Euro – Mediterranean relations, their evolution and main topics of current debates.
Partnership instruments and cooperation processes and debates, with particular focus on migration, security, crisis response and environment.
