Aims, contents and method of the course

Objectives:
The goal of this course is to provide an introductory overview of current theories, concepts, and debates in political science gender studies.

Contents:
The lecture introduces the central concepts, terms, theories and issues of political science gender studies. Using central concepts, elementary topics will be prepared and discussed. Starting with the history and present of feminism as a theory and social movement, we discuss conceptions of gender, intersectionality, masculinism, representation, biopolitics, violence, and anti-gender mobilizations. Students will be introduced to feminist, queer, postcolonial, and intersectional approaches as well as current academic and social debates.

Methods: Lecture and discussion

Assessment and permitted materials

Three discussion questions must be completed as part of a written examination.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

20 points can be achieved per question. This is a maximum of 60 points.
Grading scheme:
60-57 points = very good
56-50 points = good
49-42 points = satisfactory
41-33 points = sufficient
32-0 points = not sufficient
