Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Viennese Politics

Vienna is one of the cities with the highest quality of life worldwide - this is evidenced by a high intensity of public infrastructure.

Vienna is growing and is almost super-diverse - this leads to a growing democracy and participation gap.

Vienna was a model for modern urban development in the interwar period - results of Red Vienna can still be found.

Vienna was a place of expulsion during the Nazi regime - "Now he is angry, the Tennenbaum", a dominant mood of the Second Republic.

Vienna is both municipality and province (Bundesland) - this leads to peculiarities of the political system and urban governance.

Viennese urban politics is often in tension with federal politics.

With specialized lectures, city walks and cultural events, the lecture aims to convey the city and its politics to students and all interested people.
The lecture shows how the city has become what it is today, how it residents live and what political challenges the city faces.
