Aims, contents and method of the course

Vienna is one of the cities with the highest quality of life worldwide.
Vienna is growing and diverse - including a growing participation gap, as well as new opportunities and challenges in living together.
Vienna was a model for modern urban development in the interwar period and a place of expulsion during the Nazi regime.
Vienna is a capital city and a Bundesland - this leads to special features of the political system and urban governance.
Vienna is constantly at odds with national politics.
With expert lectures, city walks and cultural events, the series of events aims to make the city accessible to its students and inhabitants.
Vienna for Beginners shows how the city has been shaped, how it lives and functions, and what challenges it faces.

Assessment and permitted materials

80% exam & 20% protocols
Written exam at the end of the term (open questions)
One protocol about a visit to a museum and one about a cultural event. More information on Moodle.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Grading (100 points max)
From 91 points very good
90 to 76 points good
75 to 61 points satisfactory
60 to 50 points sufficient
Up to and including 49 failed
