Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Objectives:
Students should familiarise themselves with central concepts of political economy and the fundamentals of economic policy, develop a basic understanding of political-economic interrelationships and thus acquire the essential foundations of political science. The interrelatedness of economic, political, social and theoretical changes should become clear and, in particular, integrative thinking should be strengthened. Ultimately, the course aims to promote students' independent engagement with political economy issues and their ability to criticise political economy and scientific developments.

Contents:
The course offers an introduction to the field of knowledge that centres on the link between politics and economics: political economy. The lecture is initially devoted to a historically contextualised overview of political economic theory approaches (classical, neoclassical, Keynesian, neoliberal, feminist economics) and - associated with these - economic policy concepts, before addressing the empirical foundations of economic policy (in particular labour, tax and distribution policy) with reference to Austria.

Method:
Lecture and discussion.
