Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture has three main goals: 1. to provide the state-of-the-art in research on Austrian parties, 2. to root this in the relevant political science theories, and 3. to show how Austrian parties place themselves in international comparison with other democracies, in particular West European ones. The course covers the following themes: Party definitions and forms, the legal framework regulating political parties, the context of the party system, parties as organizations (structures, capacities, intra-party dynamics), parties in the electorate, inter-party relations, and parties as governmental organizations.
