Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course comprises two parts: in the first part students will learn how to formulate a research question, how to develop a research design and how to use secondary data. In the second part the students will acquire knowledge of linear regression models.

Assessment and permitted materials

1. presence and participation (20%), you must not miss more than 2 classes
2. presentation and handout (30%)
3. paper, 2.000 words (50%)
if you want to get a positive mark, you must be positive in all three parts

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course will enable students to formulate their own reseach question and to develop an adequate research design to answer the research question. Also the participants will acquire knowledge to assess the quality of secondary data.
Furthermore the students will learn to calculate linear regression models using STATA individually.

Examination topics

At the first session of the course a list with relevant literatur for each of the following sessions will be handed out. The first part of the course will be structured by presentations, group work and discussion. During the second part of the course presentations and individual work using STATA will alternate.
