210083 SE BAK13 State Activity, Policy and Governance Analyses (2013S)

The course is designed to provide students with understanding of the current challenges to the process of European integration on the background of historical evolution of EU institutions, single market and monetary union. The guiding question is: Given that the EU emerged stronger from all past crises, what does it teach us about possible solutions and outcomes of the current crisis? The course analyzes the key decisions in economic policy domains and respective political compromises that enabled them. It also covers the evolution of EU institutions such as the Council, Comission and the European Parliament and their role in searching for, deciding on and implementing the agreements that either advanced or failed to advance European integration.
