Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

What significance does visual material have in modern election campaigns? Based on current election campaigns (e.g. presidential election campaign 2020 in the USA) we discuss forms of use, distribution channels, attribution of meaning and possible problems that arise from the use of visuals in campaigns as well as from reactions by classic media and users in social media.

The seminar units take place digitally and are streamed on the e-learning platform MOODLE.

Assessment and permitted materials

The course assessment is based on three tasks to be completed during the semester. Regular participation is mandatory. Two missed seminar units will be tolerated.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

For a positive assessment, the following three tasks must be completed with at least 51 points:

Task 1: Presentation on a basic text as well as on two further, independently researched journal articles (group project: 30% of the grade);

Task 2: Written analysis of a case study (individual or group project: 50% of the grade);

Task 3: Presentation of the results from task 2 (individual or group project: 20% of the final grade).

A detailed description of the three tasks can be found on the e-learning platform MOODLE.
