Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The seminar analyzes 5cases of conflics between and within states, focusing on the following aspects:
*) Intervention actors in the conflict areas ( states, International Organisations, INGO´s)
*) Instruments and strategies for the resolution of conflicts
*) Explanatory theoretical approaches such as: system theories (Luhmann, K. Deutsch, etc.) classical theories of InternationalPoliticy (Realisme, Institutionalisme) and modern conflict theories (Dahrendorf, Bordieu, Senghaas, etc.), which tend to emphasize conflict dynamics as the basis of socio-political development.

Assessment and permitted materials

*) attendance
*) preparation of a written concept and presentation handout
*) interim and final oral reports on the chosen topic
*) written paper (~ 20 p.)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Independent critical analysis of specific conflict examples using appropriate theoretical approaches
