Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Storytelling is an important part of political communication. Not only in election campaigns do stories help to convey information or to enforce norms and convictions. In this seminar, we will learn about different uses and functions of political stories based on current case studies and discuss theoretical concepts that help us analyze stories in political science.

Methods:

Introductory lectures by the seminar lecturer, presentations on basic texts, development of small projects.

Assessment and permitted materials

The course assessment is based on three tasks to be completed during the semester (90% of the final grade). Regular and active participation is mandatory and part of the assessment (10% of the final grade). Two missed seminar units will be tolerated.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

For a positive assessment, the following tasks must be completed:

Task 1: Presentation on a basic text and a storytelling video as well as preparation of discussion points for the plenary session (group project: 20% of the grade);

Task 2: Written analysis of a storytelling video (individual or group project: 50% of the grade);

Task 3: Visualization of the findings from task 2 (individual or group project: 20% of the grade);

- Regular and active participation (i.e., mandatory readings, participating in plenary discussions, answering plenary questions): 10% of the grade.

Examination topics

This is a seminar with continuous assessment of coursework.
