Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the course is to work out a political science question as part of a BA thesis. The course supports and accompanies students while writing their bachelor thesis. The course is comprised of several tasks (see below) which together support the development of the BA thesis. Accordingly, all aspects of scientific work (research question, theory, method, critical reflection on existing literature, time planning) are covered within the framework of the course.

The thematic focus is on feminist theory, care and affects, post-colonial theory, intersectionality, state and civil society, social movements, migration, and political participation and representation.

The seminar is accompanied by the writing assistance program of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at the University of Vienna.

Assessment and permitted materials

Regular and active participation
Weekly assignments (15% of the final grade)
Writing and presenting a research concept (15%)
Peer feedback (10%)
Submitting a Bachelor thesis, submission on February 28 the latest (60%)

This seminar is accompanied by the writing assistance program of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) of the University of Vienna. Two of the submissions during the semester are supervised by trained writing assistants. In addition to the evaluation of these submissions, students receive didactic feedback that helps improve their writing skills.

These two writing tasks as well as participation in a one-to-one consultation on the subject of (scientific) writing with one of the writing assistants are part of the minimum requirements of the course. Participation in the CTL's writing assistance program (see above) is a compulsory part of the seminar.

• Submission of the SAss writing task (1st version) including a reflection sheet
• Revision (2nd version)
• Attending a one-on-one consultation with a writing assistant

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course can be successfully completed if all the above-mentioned tasks are delivered on time and assessed positively.
