Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the Bachelor's seminar is to independently write a research paper. This includes the development of a scientific research proposal, independent empirical data collection and/or analysis, as well as writing a research paper (Bachelor's thesis). In the Bachelor's seminar, the students will develop a research question and a research proposal and discuss them in class. The course is delivered in English and all the course requirements, including the Bachelor's thesis should be submitted in English.
The research topics dealt with in this seminar should be in the following areas:
Comparative political economy, comparative politics of Eastern and South Eastern Europe.

Assessment and permitted materials

- Submission and presentation of a research proposal, submission of reviews (peer feedback), and the Bachelor's thesis

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

- Writing a bachelor's thesis, 10,000 words/ approx. 30 pages (+/- 10 percent) (60%).
- Submission of the research proposal, including presentations (30%)
- Active participation in peer feedback (10%)
- Attendance is required in all course units.
All partial requirements must be assessed positively.
The course management can decide on a case-by-case basis whether an interview about the work is necessary. The interview is grade-relevant.
The plagiarism check software "Turnitin" from the University of Vienna is used to check the theses. Plagiarism is marked with an X in the transcript of records.
