Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

After an overview of the history and institutions of the EU the contents of the concepts liberalisation, privatisation and the "Euroen Social Model" (ESM) will be discussed. This is followed by a concretisation in case studies. In a third step the consequences of liberalisation and privatisation for the main contents of the ESM will be assessed and allternative policies to strengthen it will be discussed.

Assessment and permitted materials

Protocols of seminar sessions, reports on literature, own papers (with presentation), participation in the discussion

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Main objectives of the seminar are:
- to provide students with a solid knowledge of the EU and of the processes of liberalisation and privatisation,
- to enable students to understand the various variants of the concept of ESM
- to enable students to assess the consequences of liberalisation and privatisation for the ESM and to discuss alternative policie sto strengthen it

Examination topics

Discussion of texts from a reqder which will be provided, and of various papers and reports on literature
