Aims, contents and method of the course

The seminar deals with the paradigm shift in Latinamerica between 1992 and 2010
in Latinamerica focusing on three key questions:
*) The new economic-political independence of the states of Latinamerica
*) The rise of Brazil as new regional leadership-power (UNASUR)
*) The role of Brazil as international actor (G-20, BRICS, UNO)

Assessment and permitted materials

*) attendance
*) preparation of a written concept and presentation handout
*) interim and final oral reports on the chosen topic
*) written paper ( 20 p.)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Independent critical analysis of specific policy fields of the economic and foreign policy of Brazil using appropriate theoretical approaches

Examination topics

*) group meetings to discuss topics and literature
*) presentation and written report on a specific topic
