Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The seminar addresses the research field of political communication at the intersection of political science and communication science. The main focus of the seminar lies on the planning, orchestration, reception, and analysis of political campaigns. Besides new campaign strategies (e.g., in social networks) we will address integrated campaign communication, the function of visual campaign elements, and the interdependency between politics and popular culture. Furthermore, we will discuss recent findings on the following topics: How do social network campaigns influence political mobilization and participation? How do online discourses affect agenda setting in the media?

Assessment and permitted materials

Grading will be based on three deliverables during the semester: (1) a written collective review; (2) a written research report; (3) a short oral presentation in class. Regular and active class participation is expected.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Examination topics

Reading list
