Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Questions about democratic participation and representation of women and LGBTIQ persons are often answered by a few methods such as quotas or mentoring, i.e., through inclusion in state institutions such as parliaments, but also state policies (social policy, equality policy). The quantitative progress made, indeed fought for, in this regard has brought gains in freedom. However, the bourgeois state remains patriarchal. The seminar will use key feminist political science texts to discuss how the patriarchality of the state can be grasped and analyzed. One of the central questions is whether the state can be a means or a mode to transform patriarchal relations.
The goal is to be able to theoretically grasp and explain the patriarchality of the bourgeois state. In the seminar, selected key texts will be read in preparation, presented and discussed together.
