Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This seminar will focus on the influence of the European Union (EU) in the world, its role as a global player and international power in the making. It will look, especially at EU's contributions to regional and global governance by looking at e.g. on the EU's role as a multinational and regional democratic political system, its external policies including trade, humanitarian aid, migration, enlargement and neighbourhood policy as well as EU's relationship with UN, NATO, etc.

Regular attendance, reading of seminar literature/weekly written response to the readings, presentation on a current topic; active/informed participation in class discussions:

- in-depth knowledge of EU's role within the international arena
- acquaintance of EU's intricate relationship with structures and processes of global governance
- a more detailed knowledge of policy and/or issue areas where the EU engages at/with the global governance system
- development of students' analytical thinking and presentation techniques
- improvement of students' research and academic writing skills

Examination topics
The seminar is evisaged to evolve in a lively and student-friendly style aiming to bring the subject to life, giving participants a sense of the colour of EU politics and its impact on people's lives.
As a proponent of active learning I will encourage dynamic student participation during classes. The seminar will evolve in a mix of student presentations, classroom discussions, independent research and short essay writing.
