Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Care and self-care are indispensable prerequisites for the social reproduction of individuals and society. Questions concerning the way in which care is organized in a society, about who does the necessary work under what conditions, and also about why care and self-care are sometimes neglected in a life-threatening way, are therefore questions of high scientific and socio-political relevance. The seminar offers an introduction to classical and current approaches to care research that addresses these questions empirically and theoretically. The aim of the seminar is to develop an analytical concept of care as work and social relations. Two problem contexts are at the center of attention: First, the power-based connection of care and gender relations in global contemporary capitalism, with a focus on gender in its interrelations with other dimensions of inequality (especially class, migration/citizenship and heteronormativity). Second, the question of why social relations of care in global contemporary capitalism are in crisis and what solutions gender and care research has in store for overcoming this care crisis.All units of the seminar will be online.

A regularly presence is expected. The grade consists of 1) Discussion of the texts (20%) 2) Presentation (20%) and 3) Final Paper (60%)
