Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Europe has started to attract migrants in sizable numbers since the 1950s, but recent debates regarding the philosophies guiding integration of migrants and resident ethnic minority communities suggest that this issue has been somewhat neglected or at the very least not resolved in a satisfactory fashion. There is considerable criticism and a backlash regarding the concept of multiculturalism, whilst the Far Right in Europe is calling for an end to any immigration. This seminar examines various theories of nationalism, multiculturalism and the various debates on integration throughout Europe, exploring why and how this debate in currently unfolding in its particular form.
