Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The seminar serves to introduce and deepen students’ knowledge of EU-China relations issue by issue (economy, diplomacy, security), specific policies on both sides, and the discourses and motivations behind those policies. Particular attention will be paid to situating current debates in historical context, allowing students to gain insights into the thinking both in Brussels and in Beijing, and discussing how discourses and policies on both sides influence each other as well as the role of the US and Russia for this relationship.
Students will develop a thorough understanding for the content of the seminar by reading the compulsory literature, attending the lectures of the lecturer, preparing presentations on specific texts or topics, and joining discussions in each session. Students will discuss the theoretical background and methodological approach of the authors in the compulsory literature, and implications for their findings. In their independently drafted seminar papers, students address a specific question relating to the overall topic of the seminar.
