Aims, contents and method of the course

Formulierung von Forschungsfragen, Entwicklung von quantativen Forschungsdesigns, Fragebögen und Messqualität, Arbeit mit Sekundärdaten, Analysemethden in STATA (lineare & logistische Regression)

Assessment and permitted materials

presence (missing in two classes at max), discussion, reading (about one or two texts per class), homework in the practical part, seminar paper (with a theoretical and a practical part)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course will enable students to formulate their own reseach question and to develop an adequate research design to answer the research question. Also the participants will acquire knowledge to assess the quality of secondary data.

Furthermore the students will learn to calculate linear regression models using STATA.

Examination topics

At the first session of the course a list with relevant literature for each of the following sessions will be handed out. The first part of the course will be structured by presentations, group work and discussion. During the second part of the course presentations and individual work using STATA will alternate.
