Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

As the title indicates, this seminar will focus its attention on the upcoming 2008 American presidential and congressional elections. On the way to those elections, we will discuss the significant aspects of American party politics, campaigns and American political behavior. Special attention will be paid to the process of political socialization, the role of religion in American politics and the great importance of media and advertising in American campaigns. The core textbook for the course is Marjorie R. Hershey's "Party Politics in America (paper, 12th edition, 2007). Additional readings will be assigned and placed either on reserve or be available on the internet. The primary assignments for the seminar will be an oral presentation to the seminar and a seminar research paper.
