Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course will focus on the reading and interpretation of "classical" Daoist texts ("philosophical Daoism", Daojia), Laozi, Zhuangzi, Liezi, passages from the Huanglaoanthologies and other early Daoist sources. These texts form the interpretative matrix of the various religious schools of Daoism which came into existence from the end of the 2nd century of the Christian era.

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Interpretation of religious texts in translation; contectualization of religious texts in their historical setting.

Examination topics

Text interpretation of English translations.
