Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

During the course a Mahayana text (Lotussutra) in Chinese language will be read and interpreted in terms of history of religion. The participants should be able to read Chinese.

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Basic knowledge of Chinese Buddhist terminology; tools and methods of interpretation of a Chinese Mahayana text.

Examination topics

Critical-historical, philological and interpretative reading of a religious text.

Reading list

The text will be distributed at the beginning of the semester.
