Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course provides an introduction to various facets of political communication and deals both with general theoretical frameworks in the empirical study of political communication and its effects as well as case oriented insights. In the first parts it lays the theoretical grounds of studying the role of media in political processes, followed by a series of prominent approaches in political communication media effects research. It then turns to the particular questions of the role of social media in political communication processes and the role of media for social movements. Finally it discusses issues of media governance, diversity and media access.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students should be able to specify the different roles of and approaches to study the various interrelationships between media and politics and critically discuss the various literatures guiding this area of research.
