Aims, contents and method of the course

Wir erstellen ein öffentliches Blog über die EU-Wahl und betreiben verschiedene Social Media Kanäle. Wir entwickeln gemeinsam ein Magazin und üben multimediale journalistische Darstellungsformen im Kontext der Boulevardberichterstattung und der verwendeten Kanäle. In eigenen Inputs besprechen wir zugehörige Themen, wie etwa Suchmaschinen- und Social Media Optimierung. Die genaue optische und inhaltliche Gestaltung wird gemeinsam in der Gruppe ausgearbeitet und festgelegt.

Assessment and permitted materials

Regelmäßige und engagierte Mitarbeit, Erstellung journalistischer Texte und/oder Fotos und/oder Videos.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Sehr gute Deutschkenntnisse werden vorausgesetzt.

THE „JOHN OLIVER-PRINCIPLE“: JOURNALISM VIA COMEDY

Journalism is the fourth column of democracy and rule of law, holding politics responsible. Comedy is more and more taking over journalisms function of interpretation. Formats like John Olivers „Last Week Tonight“ or Trevor Noahs „Daily Show“ therefore need:
– strong argumentation
(to make their point and show contradictions)
– and simple information via multimedia 
(to keep it simple and make things easy to watch)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

100 points total (minimum 51 positive):
– active contribution during lectures (max 40)
– commitment concerning homework (max 40)
– perfection concerning homework (max 20)

Examination topics

– Knowledge of what was taught
– Personal use of the new skills on own projects

Reading list

– All participants are well informed according to journalistic standards about what’s going on in Austria and the world
– Knowledge of the formats „Last week tonight“, „The Daily Show“ and other news-comedy-content
– Permanent scanning for good journalism (as well as social media-channels of news media outlets) and political online-communication (of national and international players): videos, animation, infographics, shareable, etc

Sportjournalismus im Online-Zeitalter - unter diesem Titel soll die multimediale Aufbereitung journalistisch ansprechender Themen erarbeitet werden. Unter anderem geht es in der Lehrveranstaltung um ...

-) ... das Spannungsfeld von Quote und Qualität im Online-Journalismus;
-) ... das Imitieren von Pressekonferenzen samt dazugehöriger Live-Berichterstattung;
-) ... das Zusammenspiel von Multimedia- bzw. Online-Journalismus und PR;

-) ... die Bedeutung von Social Media im Multimediajournalismus

Diese und weitere Inhalte werden mittels praktischer Übungen, Hausübungen, Exkursionen (in den "Krone"-Newsroom) und Diskussionen, teils auch Gastvorträgen erörtert. So werden etwa Gäste aus dem Sport (aktive und/oder ehemalige) sowie der Sport-PR erwartet.

Assessment and permitted materials

Prüfungsimmanente Lehrveranstaltung; beurteilt wird demnach ab der ersten Einheit; Mitarbeit, Hausübungen und eine Abschlussarbeit sind weitere Indikatoren für die Leistungskontrolle.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Mitarbeit, Hausübungen (Anzahl ergibt sich im Semesterverlauf) und eine Abschlussarbeit, entweder in Form eines Dossiers oder eines TV- bzw. Videobeitrags.

Aims, contents and method of the course

In the exercise, we will deal with modern online journalism. There are several units: Writing for Online, Video for Online and Data Journalism. After short theory blocks, we work together with experts from the STANDARD in a very practice-oriented way.

Assessment and permitted materials

At the end of the exercise, all participants will do a multimedia work that includes text, data and video. There will be a division into groups. The completed works will be discussed in detail at DER STANDARD. Then the feedback can be incorporated before the grading.

There are handouts on the topics of text, video and data journalism.

Aims, contents and method of the course

Im Laufe des Semesters erstellen die Studierenden in Gruppenarbeit eine Multimediareportage, die eine multimediale Timeline, eine interaktive Karte, animierte Bilderstrecken und ein Video beinhalten wird. Die Lehrveranstaltung begleitet die Studierenden in diesem Prozess und bietet schrittweise Anleitungen und Feedback. Zum Schluss werden die Multimediareportagen in einem Onlinemagazin veröffentlicht.

Regelmäßige Abgaben der Gruppenarbeiten, Kurzreferate, Mitarbeit.

Die Beurteilung erfolgt anhand der regelmäßigen Abgaben der Übungen, der Präsentation der Referate und der aktiven Mitarbeit.
