Aims, contents and method of the course
This semester’s Research Project A will focus on European creative industries, namely film industries, gaming industries, and animation industries, and the sustainability and platformisation of European cultural industries. the European Film Industry.
These creative products, films, animations, video games, are artefact of cultural expression but also as medium of meaning making, central to the formation of identity, global exchange of cultures and ideas as well as a multibillion global industry.
Creative industry ecosystems are one of the main priorities of European policy and are essential for European integration. The changes taking place in these sectors are manifold: the use of AI in the production of moving image, the convergence and intersection of different industries in others, the ways in which women and minorities are still under-represented in directing, gaming development or animation and the preferences of children and young people are some of the aspects that require further exploration.Research undertaken here will be addressing important contextual, structural, policy and theoretical questions with regards to the current status and future of the European creative industries. Students on this course will have the opportunity to work closely with colleagues involved in several research projects on European creative industry ecosystems which are funded by the European Commission’s HORIZON grant.Blogposts, subject to quality, will be published on the project websites and Media Governance Lab blog.Students on this course will have the opportunity to participate in research currently undertaken in several international and interdisciplinary teams.
