Aims, contents and method of the course
This class supports you in preparing the research design for your MASTER thesis.Note that all topics will be supported in this course, but it is important to note also that it is in your benefit to register if you are interested in the following areas:
General media regulation, policy, governance issues, such as freedom of expression and censorship, media control, AI and ethical issues, privacy.
Questions in children and media, women and media (NOT media effects), informational rights
Public campaigns, social movements and activism (but not classic PR research).There are some specific topics already looking for researchers, so sign up if you are interested in:
a. public campaigns and policies countering hate speech
b. European identity and film festivals
c. news media and children (consumption, understandings, habits, parents and teachers)Also note that for this semester FOUR CORE AREAS are associated with active research projects:
Youth and/or children and European Film Industry
Youth and/or children and gaming; Gender and gaming in the European Gaming Industry
Animation
Communication and media as platforms of sustainability for the cultural industries
For students interested in exploring issues in one of these industries.Hence of particular relevance are topics on media governance in the field of European democracy and media; children and media; women, feminism and media; communication rights and institutions; technology and in particular Artificial Intelligence as a factor in media and media governance; privacy/surveillance and social media.

Assessment of the written paper according to the following criteria:
Structure of the paper, topic relevance, executive summary, research question, theoretical embedding/theoretical focus, choice of methods/implementation, citation/quality of sources, literature/formal criteria of bibliography, spelling and scientific writing style
