Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Cities are a product of social and cultural practices, shaped by economic and political processes, and the daily lives of its people. In the last three decades, Vienna has undergone a profound socio-structural and socio-cultural transformation, becoming manifest in socio-demographic trends (migration, new household forms, aging), sectoral change (de-proletarization, diversification of service and creative industries), but also in socio-spatial segregation and polarization tendencies ('gentrification'). The lecture aims to decipher the changes in Austrian's capital based on literature review. Students are invited to particpate in an on-going research on high rised housing in Vienna.
