Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Ethnography II is based on the Ethnography I-course of the winter term; still you can participate without having participated in the first course.

The course handles the empirical procedures and the methodological considerations of one central qualitative approach, Ethnography. Based on the discussions in the last course we will now concentrate on developing further on the specific analytical focus of the empirical projects that have already been started in the last course. Therefore we will work on the modification of the empirical and the theoretical considerations as it is proposed in qualitative research by the notion of a circular investigation process.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The aim of the course is therefore on the one hand the generation of data following analytical considerations, and on the other hand a methodological comparison of different kinds of data: What considerations can be made based on what kind of data? How can different kinds of data be arranged in order to make valid conclusions? Therefore, in addition to developing further the empirical investigation projects the examination of methodological considerations of the ethnographical investigations will be a central target.

Examination topics

Discussion of central texts of Ethnography; Developing and presentation of the students' empirical investigation project
