Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Living is a social practice associated with concrete places. The "Forschungspraktikum" is interested in the materiality of living (specifically, places of living in the changing fabric of the city) in connection with the (also changing) meanings of living. The seminar adresses a list of adresses in Vienna. The aim is an empirical analysis of the change of places and the changing discourse about their function (living), be it in research, official documents, literary texts or narratives of residents.
The research internship combines urban, spatial and socio-sociological perspectives and is oriented towards a pluralistic research design.
Applieds methods: ethnographic urban exploration, document analysis, interviews.

Assessment and permitted materials

Fulfillment of work assignments linked to the development and implementation of a research project (literature research, writing of concepts / analyzes, presentations, field survey). Participation in all work steps, including preparation of (interim) reports.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

- Regular and punctual attendance (minimum requirement)
- readings, and completing the work assignments for the project (minimum requirement)
- Active participation in discussion and group work during the units (20% of the overall grade)
-Active participation in the empirical investigations (40% of the overall grade)
- Text work and reporting (30% of the overall grade)
- Final presentation (10% of the overall grade)
