Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
There will be a written exam at the end of the semester. Registration is through u:space. A calculator and a sheet with formulas may be used during the exam. The formula sheet is a handwritten, self-designed A4 sheet (write on both sides) with formulas, notes, etc. Please note that it must be handwritten (i.e. not created with the computer, no slides copied into it).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Minimal requirement: Positive evaluation at 50% of points.
Examination topics
The exam will cover material from the lectures as well as the textbook. The lecture slides will be made available through moodle.

The lecture focuses on those methods that are commonly used in sociology. The examples are oriented at current sociological research and are usually based on the European Social Survey.The following topics are covered in the lecture:

- Univariate frequency counts
- Measures of central tendency and dispersion
- Cross tables
- Graphical representation
- Measures of association for nominal, ordinal and interval data
- Statistical fallacies
- Big dataThe lecture is accompanied by exercises and a tutorial.
