Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course consists of two parts. In the first part it offers an introduction into basics of social politics, their different definitions and into the welfare-system perspective. A perspective that is not only considering public actors and resources, but also welfare organizations, the family and market oriented actors.
In the second part we will discuss debates on convergence and divergence of welfare systems on European level with especial consideration of the territorial dimension and how it changes.
We will illustrate the processes on basis of scientific results and analyze their effect on different groups.

Assessment and permitted materials

-Active participation during discussions in class
-Short written assignments during the semester
-Written research report at the end of the second semester

Hinweis der SPL: bei Feststellung einer erschlichenen Teilleistung (Abschreiben, Plagiieren, Ghostwriting, etc.) muss die gesamte Lehrveranstaltung als geschummelt gewertet und als Antritt gezählt werden.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The requirements for participating in this Research Lab are twofold. First, advanced knowledge of English (reading and writing skills) is mandatory, as the working languages of the Research Lab are German and English. This implies that the input provided (teaching, reading, assignments) is partly in English. Second, participants are expected to have theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the use of qualitative and/or quantitative methods.
