Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Opening up (social) pedagogically dominated occupational fields to sociologists is a current trend in extracurricular educational work. For this reason, this course focuses on the basic professional field orientation, the social and organizational areas of tension and the dilemmas of open youth work in Vienna, as youth work is a very realistic professional field for sociologists. As a third field of socialization (besides home and school) and as a compulsory task of public youth welfare, youth work is outlined in its range of offers and placed in front of a social background (debate on education, demographic developments). The aim of this course is to be able to explain current challenges (new media, digital trends and youth sociological concepts) and to establish relevant contacts in the field. Guest lectures, open observations and field contacts as well as participatory methods of knowledge transfer are methodological cornerstones of this course.
