Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The seminar offers a theoretical and practical introduction to Qualitative Research focussing on Ethnography. It is divided into four organizational units: Before we start, we meet once to clarify introductory and organisation questions. In the first "block" meeting we will discuss general issues of the theoretical foundations of ethnography. Based on this theoretical introduction students will create their own empirical "mini-projects" in order to study the application of different ethnographic research tools. These projects will be the main target of the following meeting as they provide us with the opportunity for a deeper discussion of ethnographic research strategies and for methodological reflection. In the last meeting results of the 'mini-projects' are presented.
Assessment and permitted materials
Presentation of a central ethnographic text at the first "block" meeting, presentation of the project and of a central methodological text at the second meeting, handing in a draft of the term paper before the last unit, discussion of it at the last unit, term paper.
