Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this seminar is to research about the (super)rich in Vienna. Till now, the inequlity studies have focused on poverty and there exist few researches on the dynamic and structure of wealth in cities which is also true for Vienna. In this course, we will investigate the social inequlity from the viewpoint of dynamic of poverty and wealth.
In addition to the theoretical basics of wealth with a focus on the super-rich, the course offers the opportunity to carry out your own research. During this two-semester seminar, different dimensions of richness and superrich in Vienna will be researched. The most important aspects are visuality, consumption patterns and spatial structure of richness (prosperity map).

Assessment and permitted materials

The assignment consists of conducting a research project and presenting a report (review of literature, wrting a proposal and data gathering)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

During the second semester, the data gathering should be done. The students should anylize the data, present the results and submit the final report during the semester. The students should participate in all parts of the research, namely: literature research, preparation of problem statement, designing the research methods, finalazing a research report and public presentation of the results.
