Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In the connection with the 50th anniversary of the labour-recruitment contract with Turkey (1964; followed by the contract with Jugoslavia in 1966), the lecture addresses the question of how labor migration has changed the Austrian society, and how Sociology has treated this change. The objective of this lecture is therefore twofold: critical social analysis and critical questioning of the own discipline. What theoretical and methodological perspectives sociological research has developed in analysing labor migration? What focus does sociology take in investigating the living situation of former foreign workers? And how did sociology conceptualize the transformation of Austria into a country of immigration, and into what is called a post-immigrant society?
