Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
Attendance, active participation in class (keeping up to date on the readings, asking questions and participating in discussions), two small homework assignments, as well as group work (presentation and paper).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Main aims of this course are for students to gain an understanding of the most important sociological terms and phrases, as well as to practice and improve English vocabulary (general and specific) and language functions. There will be ample time for questions and discussions, putting an emphasis on practicing the language and gaining confidence with articulating thoughts in English.
Examination topics
Students will practice the discussion of sociological works in situations similar to those that they will encounter during their studies and in their future professional lives. They will read, discuss, present and write about English texts dealing with current sociological issues such as gender, migration, health & illness and research methods.
