Neben klassisch soziologischen Texten steht die antikolonialistische Literatur, z.B. von Frantz Fanon und Aimé Césaire, am Programm. Es wird auch die Gelegenheit geboten, sich mit den grundlegenden Texten der postkolonialen Theorie (Bhaba, Said, Spivak) auseinanderzusetzen. Erwartet werden keine Vorkenntnisse, aber sehr erwünscht ist Grundlagenwissen, insbesondere in der soziologischen Theorie, ebenso wie Interesse an globalen Zusammenhängen. Ein zentrales Anliegen der postkolonialen Theorie ist die Rückkoppelung an die lokalen und globalen Probleme der Gegenwart, wie die Verschärfung sozialer Ungleichheit, globale Migration, `Terrorismus`, die ökologische und ökonomische Krise. Erst eine soziologische Leseart der Vergangenheit kann Kontinuitäten und Brüche sichtbar machen.
