Assessment and permitted materials
Preparation of the texts; active participation and input; essay or review at the end of the term (10 pages)
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The aim is to address different social diagnoses from an urban sociological perspective. Urban sociology itself is very heterogeneous, but nevertheless common parameters can be determined - such as the spatial location and the anchoring within an urban context, which serve as filters for the view on society.
Examination topics
Depending on the lenght, one or two original texts (German and / or English) have to be prepared per unit. In the workshop, the texts are analyzed and discussed on the basis of some questions. Afterwards the texts are compared in order to identify the similarities and differences in the diagnosis of soctiety.

In this workshop, societies are focussed from the perspective of urban sociology. Social change is analyzed in the context of economic transformation, cultural change, individualization and globalization. On the one hand, the inequalities, fractures and cleavages are analyzed between and within social groups, on the other hand, the question of the production of social cohesion plays a central role.
