Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This seminar engages with the practical aspects of searching, storing and presenting literature and will provide insight into the basic standards, norms and techniques of scientific practices in the social sciences. You will acquire a range of practical skills to conduct and organise your research. These include knowing how (and why) to cite literature, doing literature research and reviews and engaging with tools to organise and archive your references. We will identify the central publication media within the field of STS and you will be introduced to the services provided by the university library. You will also learn about different tools and techniques to present and communicate your data orally and in written form for different purposes and audiences.
You will work individually as well as collaboratively and also assess and reflect upon your personal strengths and contributions while working within a group. This includes being able to give productive but critical feedback to your peers.

In order to introduce you to some theoretical considerations of STS in regard to its own knowledge production, we will critically reflect together on the practical consequences of the used tools and techniques and how they might impinge on the output you produce.
