- develop search techniques for identifying key authors, institutions and peer reviewed journals, edited volumes and books in the library and on the web.
- determine what knowledge within these sources is most pertinent to their research interest.
- experiment with strategies for organizing the knowledge they note down into a manageable working literature review.
- transform an ordinary annotated review into a critical argument that supports their own research question.
- develop or refine the Literature Review for their thesis. The seminar is designed to compliment the Social Science Research Methods seminar, in which graduate students develop a research design for their thesis. Students will also have the opportunity to develop presentation skills as well as be exposed to a variety of interesting literature each is reviewing.
