    Assessment and permitted materials

    The discussion class engages with the issues addressed in the lecture class through debating texts or any other additional material indicated in the handout. It builds on discussion and the active participation of all students. For each workshop one group of students will act as 'workshop leaders'.

    To pass the discussion class, students are expected to:
    1) Read the literature for the respective discussion workshop
    2) Write reading cards for a selected number of texts
    3) Participate actively in all the discussions.
    4) Take a leadership role in the discussion at one of the workshops – hand in 3 days before the discussion class a short paper outlining how you plan to organise the discussion.
    5) Adhere to the general standards of good academic practice.

    Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

    Grading Scheme
    The grading of the course is based on the separate assessment of different tasks on a scale of 1-5. The relative weight of each task in relation to the overall grade is:
    1) Preparation of the analysis of paper(s) before each workshop and handing them in on time 35% (assessed individually)
    2) Contribution to the discussion in class on the basis of your reading and preparation; engagement in the discussion group;
    your presence (late coming will impact your grade) 30% (assessed individually)
    3) Being a lead discussant in a workshop and handing in the concept for the discussion 35% (assessed collectively)

    To successfully complete the course, a weighted average of at least 4,5 is required. Failure to meet the attendance regulations, to deliver course assignments on time or to adhere to standards of academic work may result in a deduction of points.

    Formal requirements for written work:
    Citations are always marked and referred to in the bibliography at the end of a text
    No unauthorized copying or pirating of existing texts; plagiarism will not be tolerated! Turnitin is used to check assignments.
    Each document must include course title and number, name, student ID, and date

      Information

      Aims, contents and method of the course

      The aim of the discussion class is to give students the opportunity to read, discuss, and engage with the key texts related to the different lectures in the "Key questions and concepts". This should deepen the understanding of the concepts and issues addressed in the lecture class.
